Message from Norman Rosenblum, INMD Scientific Director
April 2025

Recently, INMD partnered with the Journal of Applied of Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism (APNM) to put together a Special Collection, Mobilizing knowledge generated from Canadian Institutes of Health Research-Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes (CIHR-INMD) Food and Health Strategic Research Funding. This Collection highlights some of the research that was funded through strategic investments made by CIHR-INMD in Food and Health under the leadership of INMD’s previous Scientific Director, Dr. Philip Sherman. Often the impact of research is not documented in the public space for years beyond publication; and through this special collection we saw a real opportunity to highlight impact and discuss the opportunities and barriers relevant to impact. In a nutshell, we wanted to capture the “so what?”, “for whom?”, and “now what?” of this research and to provide the opportunity for the researchers to tell their own stories and share their perspectives.
The publications generated by the researchers in this Special Collection are impressive. I invite you to review this Special Collection, recognizing that in many cases, the researchers who contributed articles to this Special Collection have continued to build on their successes by obtaining subsequent peer-reviewed grants from CIHR or other funding agencies. This work will no doubt result in even greater impact, and we look forward to reading these stories in the future.
Dr. Norman Rosenblum, MD, FRCPC, FCAHS
